Another of my favourite books is
Private Peaceful (by Micheal Morpurgo)
I really, really love this book. It’s about a soldier from WWII, a young man, looking back over his life as a child. It’s the kind of book you can’t say much about, otherwise it spoils the story. All I can say is: read it. It’s a really moving book and probably one of the saddest I’ve ever read. Micheal Morpurgo is an amazing writer and this book, in my opinion, is him at his very best.
